In some cases the toxic intestinal biofilm needs to be treated before any bowel program can be successful. Toxic biofilms can cause increased intestinal permeability and food allergies. Biofilms are bacterial colonies protected by mucous structure, which protects the bacteria within the biofilm. To successfully treat biofilms, the first step is to break down the mucous membrane with mucolytic enzymes. This is followed by a killing agent and probiotics and fiber to clean up the debri.
